Alter Somethin' Days - Cotton Bags

Monday, August 29, 2011

First let me say Happy Happy Birthday
to my oldest girl Rebekah!
Happy 20th. Love ya girlie! Rachel, Nana, Papa, Auntie Cokie and I are sending hugs all the way to California. She's having a great start to the semester. Yay! Here's my fave page with Bekah on it.

Now back to our regularly scheduled program!

I'm starting something new on my blog!

Introducing...

This will be a bi-weekly feature to show crafters
the  fun of making altered projects!

First up are Altered Cotton Bags!!!

These bags are so fun & easy to make. I filled each bag with sweet treats. You can also fill these with buttons to give to one of your crafty friends. :)

To make these:
1. Get yourself some small cotton bags. I ordered these from The Kraft Outlet

2. Add your favorite embellishment to the front. Chipboard is easy to use because it's sturdy and will stay in place. Use Glue Dots to make them pop-up.

3. Add a sweet sentiment - I used SRM stickers. Love these.

4. Add Twine at the top for a pop of color.

And I must give a shout out to Monika and her fabulous blog - I Love It All. Her designs are AMAZING. She sent me the YUMMY twine {from The Twinery} that I used on today's projects. She also sent me some of her adorable prints. Here's one that I used to make a card. I overlay the top of the print with a transparency from MME's Lime Twist collection. I'm going to frame it and sit it on my desk.

You gotta check out her Etsy shop too:

It's full of beautiful prints, mini books, journals, supplies, and more. I already have my sights set on several items to give as Christmas presents.

And another shout out goes to the sweet Virginia Lu. She sent me the fun SRM stickers that I used on today's project. Check out her fab blog too!

Hope you find inspiration from my new feature!
And if you love altered projects be sure to play along in our
 upcoming altered challenges at LESSology.

(Updated - This project appeard in the Create Idea Book - Stamping 2012)

Yay for the weekend!

We had a great start to the school year. Rachel likes all of her new teachers {but is worried about Geometry}. And I managed to memorize all of my student's names. {hope I don't forget them by Monday} My brain is on overload right now...LOL

Here's my latest project.

The movie "Julie & Julia" is my inspiration.
It's the perfect choice for me since {I love to bake, love Julia Child, and love Meryl Streep}.

Hope you all have a Happy Weekend.
And be sure to check out the fun over at the new LESSology blog.

That's So Rad!

Wednesday, August 24, 2011

Happy middle of the week everyone!

The school year started out great and we are still rolling along. I'll need a good nap by the weekend. :) :)

Here's a fun layout today featuring the

I added the word "RAD" to this page because I'm always using it around my daughters. They laugh at me and say that I am sooo behind the times because no one uses that word anymore. Well I'm trying to bring it back! :)

I'm not the only one out here still using some "old" slang.
What term do you all still use?
{can't wait to read your answers}

Share Your Smile!

Monday, August 22, 2011

It's "Happy 1st Day of School" for many of us today. I'm praying that all goes well this year! I don't have a school project to share, but I wanted to show off a little something that I made using the goodies & sketch from Artful Delight!

Also, I'm sooo lovin' the Moxie Fab Tuesday Trigger - Girly & Gutsy challenge. I think my project fits right in.

I made this using 3" x 3" chipboard, covered it with paper, punched a hole in the top left corner, added a flower, a metal ring and this pretty Really Reasonable Ribbon. It's the perfect little "Girly Gift" to make someone SMILE!

I added my own Prima flower that I won
from Fern's wonderful blog candy.

 Love the sentiment.
It's part of the Authentique goodies in the kit.

I hope you all have a Fabulous week!

Monday, August 15, 2011

I'm kicking off my Monday with the Really Reasonable Ribbon - "Keep It Clean" Challenge. Your mission {if you choose} is to create a CAS card and play along with us {HERE}.

I added an October Afternoon "Helpful Sally" vintage card to the front. I love how she is helping her mommy clean the house. Don'tcha just wish all kids were this eager to clean? (smile)

I also added some beautiful RRR White Crochet Lace and a Creative Charms Red Vintage Poppy to the bottom. I think it keeps the look crisp and clean.

Now what are you waiting for?

Link up your CAS cards today. There's an AWESOME prize up for grabs. And be sure to visit the RRR Store for all of your ribbon goodies.

And be sure to pop over to the LESSology Blog today.

RRR and The Hamster Hop!

Saturday, August 13, 2011

Welcome to this month's Really Reasonable Ribbon Hop!

This month I made some cute Hamster Tags to tie around pencils that I will give my students on the first day of school.

I used my SU punches to make the tags.
I found the hamster stickers at Target - {my fave shopping place}.

I then added some fun Blue Topaz Striped Grosgrain ribbon from the August Ribbon Club assortment.

Your next stop on the hop is Crystal's blog.
Please make sure to head on over to see her wonderful project.

If you get lost on the hop be sure to start {HERE}

A Lucky Girl Gift Idea

Thursday, August 11, 2011

Happy Thursday ya'll. I'm back at work now after a very busy summer. My classroom looks so bland right now. Gotta break out the crafts and and get it ready before my new students arrive. {so much to do...so little time}

In the meantime...
here's this month's Lucky Girl Crafts Kit project.
I made this using the August Kit.

Did ya know that there's so many things you can do with a kit {besides making a layout}. Here's my Altered CD case made using the kit.

I started off with a plain kraft CD/DVD holder and topped it with Echo Park Little Girl Teal Paper. I then added the Making Memories Glitter Bling Pink Flower Frame. Instead of putting a picture inside the frame, I cut one of the blooms off of the American Crafts Dear Lizzy Spring Lovely Ribbons. Lastly, I adhered the bloom in the center of the frame with Glue Dots.

This is a great idea for party favors, weddings, a baby shower, birthdays, and even teacher gifts {hint, hint}...LOL

Instead of putting a CD/DVD inside you could always insert a handmade card and/or gift card as well. The gifting possibilities are endless.

To order your Lucky Girl Crafts August kit please be sure to visit the shop {HERE}. To visit the fun & fab blog click {HERE}. While you are there be sure to become a follower.

And here's a sneak peek at another LGC project that I will debut next time. This one is a fun one where I poke fun at myself. Can't wait to show it to ya. Stay tuned...

We are Gleeks!

Tuesday, August 9, 2011

We are Gleeks!

If you ever watch the T.V. show "Glee" then you know exactly what I'm talking about. If you were ever in choir or theater in high school then you will love, love, love this show.

Here's my latest page of Rachel and my nephew Kendall striking the official "Glee" pose. I used one photo (instead of 2) on the fun Sketchy Thursdays sketch.

I kept it clean and simple by using some fun A.C. Amy Tangerine paper, burlap from Really Reasonable Ribbon, and other goodies.

I purchaed some Glee memorbilia an actually used a "Glee" keychain on the page.

I also added a "Glee" Button as well to add some fun T.V. nostalgia.

The title was made using Authentique alpha stickers that I won from Artful Delight.

And this large polka dot button is from Creative Charms. It looks great set against the A.C. Amy Tangerine fabric Thickers. {Yep - I turned the letter "L" sideways three times to serve as a line of dimension on the page.}
