Pleating Is So Much Fun!

Wednesday, October 13, 2010

I had so much fun making this card. I've never done pleating before but had to try it on this card for the Moxie Fab World - Perfectly Placed Pleats Challenge.

I also used this cute sketch from 2 Sketches 4 You to design my card.

Caardvarks is also having a Scraplift Challenge. I used Ashley Cannon Newell's card as my inspiration.
Instead of using a sticker - I actually made my own sticker using patterned paper.

Here are the details. First, I love this paper from My Mind's Eye. I used this paper to make my main embellishment on the card. Instead of using the entire sheet I just cut out the Hot Air Balloon and separated it from the rest of the paper.
After I cut out the Hot Air Balloon I used flat shipping cardboard like this and adhered the balloon to it.
I always have a lot of this flat cardboard lying around from other items that I order online.
Using the cardboard also makes the design more sturdy for my card. It also allowed me to pop the design up a bit. After adhering the hot air balloon, I then cut around the cardboard and used Glue Dots Pop Ups to adhere it.

Here's a close-up shot of the pleating. I used a strip of sheer red ribbon then added my pleating below it for more dimension and a visual effect on the design.
The pleats go so well with the design of the card.
I can't wait to try this on a layout.

I hope you enjoyed my pleating project. I can't wait to do more of this!

Card Recipe:
Cardstock: Stampin Up; Patterned Paper: My Mind's Eye - Love Me Do and Surf's Up - Blue Waves; Stamp: "Happy Everything" - Stampin Up; Ink: Archival Brilliance - Rocket Red; Ribbon: Wedding Ribbon - Hobby Lobby; Adhesive: Glue Dots - Pop Ups.

great card the color combo is very vibrate i like it a lot! I was just reading through your blog a bit and I noticed under the "Meet Angi" tab your number 4 is looking for a camera online... I do have a suggestion if you're interested (I own my own wedding photography business). I suggest Nikon.. It really depends on what you're looking for in your camera, what you want it to do, how much you want to spend, etc. I haven't worked with Cannon too much (though I do own some Cannon products like my video camera). I also own Kodak, Olympus, Sony, and fuji.. (don't own a Minolta). So if you have any questions I'd be more than happy to answer them for you.. I'd also be more than happy to suggest a certain camera if you let me know what you're looking for.. (all of this is if you haven't already bought your camera lol). Anyway just wanted to offer my help. Let me know if you still want help! =) Have a great day and thanks for sharing your beautiful card!!
